During October and November, 2 very nice ladies from Kerbcraft, Road Safety have been coming in to school to teach us how to cross our very busy roads safely. They have been teaching us to stand behind the kerb, how to find a safe place to cross and how to cross the road safely between parked cars. We still have a lot to learn in the next few weeks.

Cardiff Castle
Yesterday we visited Cardiff Castle as part of our topic for this term - Long ago and far away. We met a nice man called Dyfed who was a storyteller. Our task was to make a modern version of Little Red Riding Hood. We gave her a golden motorbike to ride on, dressed her in yellow and the wolf drove around in a car. Our voices were recorded retelling the story and Dyfed is going to be putting it on a CD for us. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and thought the storytelling was amazing.
Next we looked at the Birds of Prey they have in the castle grounds. There was an Eagle owl called Hector, he was huge and a Little owl called Mr G who was very cute. We saw Daisy the barn owl fly towards the keeper but when we approached she didn't want to fly anymore so the keeper brought Hector the Eagle owl out for us to see. He was magnificent flying, he flew very low to the ground and we could hardly hear his wings!
Inside the castle we saw highly decorated rooms, one for the men and one for the women. They used a lot of gold leaf to decorate the walls and ceilings and the walls told us the seasons of the year, the times of the day as well as the days of the week all in picture form. In the sitting room we looked at old toys and books and compared them to ours. Along the walls were pictures from different fairy tales, they looked magical. We entered the library and saw a lot of big thick books unlike ours in class. It was definately a library for grown ups!
We had an amazing time in the castle!

Braces Bread
Braces Bread visited our school to show the children how bread is
made and distributed to the shops. The children dressed up as bakers
and had a go at making their own bread and had a lot of fun with the
dough. Braces kindly gave every child a loaf of bread and an activity
pack to take home with them.

Spring Bulbs Update
Nearly all of our daffodils flowered and we sent off our data to Cardiff Museum. We were so proud when they told us we came Highly Commended. They sent us all a certificate and pencil for our hard work. We practiced reading a thermometer and a rain gauge as well as learning about plants. We really enjoyed ourselves.

K'Nex
As part of our Science Week we went to the Historical Centre for a K'nex workshop. The aim was to make and electronic book of a mini-beast that we make out of K'nex. We used iPads to create a book, firstly we drew a picture of our mini beast and labelled it, made our mini-beast out of K'nex and photographed it. Next we inserted the photograph into our book and labelled our photo. We added 5 fun facts about our mini-beasts, took a selfie and made a video. We had a very busy morning but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Spring Bulbs
During the summer 2014 the National Museum of Wales sent us plant pots, weather station equipment and bulbs (daffodil and crocus).
They needed our help.
They wanted to see how weather can affect the growing of flowers. They asked us if we would adopt and name a crocus and a special daffodil called the 'Tenby Daffodil', this daffodil is in decline so they wanted us to help them keep them growing.
We planted the bulbs in October as asked by the museum and put the outside.
We have been keeping weather records and sending the information back to the museum every week. As a thank you they have sent us a gardening voucher for £10 and we will buy some lovely flowers for our garden in our little yard. After a very cold and sometimes rather wet winter our bulbs have finally grown and some of the crocuses have flowered. We have entered this important information on the museums website. We are very pleased with our progress so far.
